Crystal Tomato comes to JHB 20 November 2014 The Crystal Tomato Skin Brightening Supplement and the Crystal Clear Skin Clarity Cream were launched in Johannesburg by actress and former Miss South Africa, Sorisha Naidoo, at a glitzy event held at the Radisson Blu Hotel on 6 November. Naidoo, who holds the exclusive distribution rights for Crystal Tomato for Africa and India, launched Crystal Tomato in Durban last year. “I first started using Crystal Tomato about a year and a half ago as I’ve been a bit of guinea pig when it comes to my skin. Crystal Tomato was one of the few products that helped my skin revert to its original state,” she said. Naidoo thanked Dr Alastair Clark of the Sandton Aesthetic Institute and his wife Estelle for helping her to launch the product in South Africa. In his presentation, Dr Clark spoke about skin colour, melanin and vascularisation. “The nature of melanin and where it is located in the skin is of paramount importance, as is the quantity, type and distribution of the melanin. Contrary to what many people may think, there is the same number of melanocytes in all people, regardless of ethnicity. The main causes of melanin synthesis are UV light, irritation of the skin and hormonal imbalances. “Crystal Tomato is produced from non-genetically modified tomatoes – there is no artificial insemination involved, only natural pollination by bees. The growing and harvesting of the tomatoes is carefully controlled and monitored. Tomatoes are only picked once they are ripe.” Clark went on to explain that crystal tomatoes contain two colourless carotenoids – both natural brightening ingredients. “Unlike orange or red carotenoids, which change the skin’s colour to a tan or orange shade when consumed in large amounts, colourless carotenoids do not contain any visible coulour and will not affect the skin’s colour. “For added benefit, L-Cysteine, an amino acid, is included in the Crystal Tomato formulation. L-Cysteine helps to boost the liver’s production of glutathione, commonly referred to as the body’s master anti-oxidant, to maintain skin health. Without glutathione, cells will die at a faster rate, leading to quicker ageing. It also has the ability to lighten dark skin and pigmentation,” stated Dr Clark.
